Battle of The Books

Battle of the Books is a summer reading program and team trivia competition for students entering grades 6 – 9. If you enjoy reading and chatting about books, Battle might be for you! You will meet other kids who share your love of books, win prizes and books, and challenge yourself. Teams from libraries across Erie County, NY compete to be the Battle Champions. They compete by answering questions about the 3 books selected by members of the B&ECPL staff for that year’s competition. Every year there is an Art Challenge as well, where students can submit works of art inspired by one of the Battle books for a chance to win a prize!

Battle 2022

Orchard Park’s Battle team meets weekly to prepare for the county-wide, friendly competition among libraries, which is held virtually in August. The weekly meetings are fun-filled with trivia and activities related to the books. Practice sessions are lively and fun!

There are additional events planned beyond the weekly meetings. A few “Cram Sessions” are scheduled later in the season and they are filled with games and snacks. The Battle Competition takes place virtually at each individual library. Each team answers the same 25 questions per book, for a total of 75 questions. A Field Day is held to celebrate the end of another Battle Season and the top two teams face off in a fun competition against one another!
