The Friends of the Orchard Park Public Library is pleased to offer a one-time scholarship in the amount of $500 to a high school senior at the Orchard Park Public High School or a graduating senior from a private school within Erie County but lives in the town of Orchard Park, is graduating this school year, and continuing his/her education the following academic year as a full-time student working toward a bachelor’s or associate’s degree at an accredited college or university.
The Friends’ intent for this award is to assist in the purchase of the student’s textbooks, course materials, transportation, housing, food, etc. The recipient will also receive a one year, individual membership to the Friends of the Orchard Park Public Library.
Although we require a transcript from the high school for each applicant, the presentation of the award will be based principally on the essay submitted. Scholastic achievement and personal information will only be used as secondary criteria as deemed necessary. All applicants must have a library card in good standing for at least one year.

Please answer the following question with thoughtful answers/comments. Please use a separate page and DO NOT include your name on the essay. Your essay must be between 500 to 750 words in length. Please provide three copies (if applying via mail – if applying online, only one copy is needed).
Essay Question: How do you use the resources available at the Orchard Park Public Library and what does the library mean to you and the community as a whole?
Relatives of members of the Friends of Orchard Park Public Library Board of Directors are not eligible for this scholarship.
A complete application must be submitted by mail or online by the application deadline or postmarked by the deadline. Applications arriving after the deadline date or those not in compliance with the instructions will not be considered.
Only the essay, transcript and acceptance letter will be considered by the Scholarship Committee.
Students may not submit more than one application.
All applications submitted remain the property of the Friends. The essay, or selected portions, may be published by the Friends of the Library.
Selection of the scholarship recipient will be at the complete and sole discretion of the Scholarship Committee.
Recipient must submit a letter or certification of enrollment from the college/university attending in the coming academic year (2018-2019) to the Friends by April 2, 2020.
The award may not be transferred to another student and will be rescinded if there is evidence of deceit, false, and/or intentionally incorrect information submitted on the application. If the scholarship is rescinded, the recipient must return all scholarship funds provided by the Friends.
