Friends of Orchard Park Public Library offer $500 Scholarship
The Friends of the Orchard Park Public Library is pleased to announce it is once again offering a one-time scholarship in the amount of $500 to a high school senior graduating this year.
Eligible seniors will either be graduating from Orchard Park High School or an Orchard Park resident who will be graduating from a private school high school within Erie County.
Eligible seniors must also be continuing his/her education the following academic year as a full-time student working toward a bachelor’s or associate’s degree at an accredited college or university.
Students are required to write an original essay of no more than 750 words that explains how they used the Library during their high school career and what the Library means to them.
Also required is a completed application, which can found at www.friendsofoplibrary.org/what-we-sponsor/Scholarship, along with a transcript from the school and a letter of acceptance from the college or university they are planning to attend. Application deadline is Wednesday, May 1, 2019.
Applications that do not meet these minimum requirements will not be eligible.
The Friends’ intent for this award is to assist in the purchase of the student’s textbooks, course materials, transportation, housing, food, etc. The recipient will also receive a one year, individual membership to the Friends of the Orchard Park Public Library.
This is the third year the Friends of the Orchard Park Public Library will be offering the scholarship. The organization expects to continue the tradition into the near future. More information can be found on the Friends’ website, www.friendsofoplibrary.org.
